Copyright Friendly Music
Unfortunately, you cannot download MP3s onto your school computer from the Internet. What you can do is download at home and burn to a disc/jump drive that you can then use at school. Or you can let me know a song that you want and where it is located and I can put it on the common drive for you. (Probably.)

iGoogle

iGoogle  http://www.google.com/ig
One of the most useful free online tools I've encountered (and which I could not function without) is the iGoogle homepage. You can create a personalized Google homepage with widgets, or tools, to help you organize your life. I have a box with a running sticky note, a to do list, a link to my Google notebook, a link to my Google bookmarks. I can access these from any computer with the Internet and is how I work from anywhere, take notes in workshops and CSIs, and keep track of everything I want to do. I will include a screen shot of my page here, and you can stop by for more info. The only thing you need to have in order to set up an iGoogle page is a gmail address. You don't have to use it for anything other than to log in. If you want one, email me and I can "invite" you.

I really liked this listing of computer ethics that students could understand. Especially with all the confusion over music downloading and image credity. I think I'll post it in my lab. Found it out in the blogosphere http://www.cpsr.org/issues/ethics/cei

The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics
Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people.
Thou shalt not interfere with other people’s computer work.
Thou shalt not snoop around in other people’s computer files.
Thou shalt not use a computer to steal.
Thou shalt not use a computer to bear false witness.
Thou shalt not copy or use proprietary software for which you have not paid.
Thou shalt not use other people’s computer resources without authorization or proper compensation.
Thou shalt not appropriate other people’s intellectual output.
Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you are writing or the system you are designing.
Thou shalt always use a computer in ways that ensure consideration and respect for your fellow humans.

The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics was written by Dr. Ramon C. Barquin, President of the Computer Ethics Institute

"This is a community music site featuring remixes licensed under Creative Commons, where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want."

Students can borrow music from this site to use in student projects without having to worry about the strict 30-second copyright guideline. All students have to do is give the appropriate credit to the music they use! Some very very good music here.
